Otto von Bismarck stayed overnight at the Schwarzer Bär in Jena on July 30, 1892. When the singing and the people of Jena’ cheers in front of the hotel wouldn’t end in the vening, Bismarck stepped on the balcony and said: “I thank you again, but just you become 78 years, then you will also feel the need for rest after such an exciting day. I wish you a good night’s rest”.

Even today, the dignified balcony room is furnished with Art Nouveau furniture, whiel still retaining all the modern comforts of the 21st century. These include a contemporary bathroom, a television and a minibar. From the balcony you can look out over the lively student city of Jena like Bismarck.
